NCCSE Challenge Scholarship
General Information
Funds are available through Medi-Cal billing
for scholarships to students who demonstrate financial need and intent
to attend either higher education or training programs after high school
or during transition services.
Priority will be given to students who fall within the free and reduced
lunch guidelines.
Students eligible are those who are not provided for
by the following agencies or have only minimal assistance from them:
- Regional
Center
- Department of Rehabilitation
- Department of Social Services
- Social Security
Distribution of Scholarship packets will take place through cabinet,
job alike meetings at NCCSE, NCCSE website and be available from NCCSE
upon request. Annually a new packet will be produced and distributed
in the fall.
Interviews will take place and Scholarships will
be disbursed two times per year, January and May. We will forward them
to the student’s
school for recognition at ceremonies held at the district.
Amounts of scholarships will be $1,000 to $5,000 depending on cost of
education.
Scholarships will be renewable up to four years annually.
Scholarship committee will be composed of the following representatives
who will review paper submissions, conduct interviews with candidates
and determine the awards:
1 Special Education Director
1 Program Specialist
1 Related Services person from the SELPA (VI or OT)
1 Parent representative
1 Agency representative
All Challenge scholarship applications are to be forwarded to the address
on the front page of the packet.
We have tried to make the process accessible to all students with disabilities
but if special arrangements are needed they may be requested with a letter
submitted with the packet.
